Why Do Scanned Documents Appear Sideways?

When scanning receipts, bank forms, or multi-page invoices via automatic document feeder (ADF) trays or smartphones, landscape orientation pages are often scanned in portrait alignment. Opening these documents forces readers to rotate their screens or print upside-down documents.

Slifto permanently modifies the underlying /Rotate metadata attribute in the PDF specification. This ensures that every operating system, mobile viewer, and office printer renders the document right-side up without recompressing text or losing visual quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this tool, calculation methods, and privacy.

1Does this permanently rotate the PDF file?

Yes. Unlike clicking "Rotate" inside a desktop PDF reader (which only rotates your temporary viewport view), Slifto permanently rewrites the /Rotate orientation attribute in the internal PDF page dictionary so that the file opens in the correct orientation on every device, printer, and browser.

2Can I rotate only specific pages in a multi-page document?

Yes. You can choose to apply rotation to all pages, odd pages only, even pages only, or enter a custom list of page numbers (e.g. 1, 4, 7-9).

3Does rotating reduce text or image quality?

No. Rotating a PDF changes only the coordinate orientation matrix metadata. The underlying vector text, fonts, and raster images are not re-compressed or degraded in any way.

4Are my confidential files uploaded anywhere?

Never. The entire rotation routine executes strictly in your local browser memory using WebAssembly. Your documents remain completely confidential.
